DKP, short for Dragon Kill Points, is a points system that allows for an unbiased comparison between raid members
when decisions about loot distribution are to be made based on attendance and recent items that have been awarded.
Points are awarded to each member of the raid as items with a dkp value are dropped. The current DKP of each member reflects his or her
priority for loot. When a member "wins" an item, they lose a DKP amount that reflects the value of that item, and all members
gain dkp equal to the item cost divided by the number of players in the raid group.
Without the DKP system or some loot distribution system it is entirely possible that a player could run Molten Core for a year
and never get an item. This could happen if every item was randomed and you were unlucky on the random rolls. This means you
may put 52 weeks of effort in for zero reward. With the DKP system, you would be guaranteed to get something as over time you
would become the highest on the list and eligible for the gear you wanted.
This system will be used for all Outlands raids.
So what will we be using and how will it be tracked?
We have decided to use the zero sum DKP system as this enables new members and members from other guilds to join us and still
have a chance to be awarded loot. In the zero-sum DKP system the DKP awarded will always have a zero balance, this minimises points
hording / inflation. Anyone needing an item may roll no matter what their points balance. First refusal will be given to
the interested player with the highest points balance, who then goes down that amount of points even if they were at a negative number
or it will take them to a negative value. numerous sources of further info regards this system can be found on the web
We have a DKP table (eqDKP) to track raiders' dkp standings, events and loots, which will be continually updated as loots are awarded.
There will be a master looter assigned per raid, who will use all the necessary tools to maintain the dkp records, and to make all the
announcements about each item's dkp value, player/class eligibility, and begin the rolls where necessary.
The Loot Process Explained
At the beginning...
- A master looter will be assigned at the start of the raid who is responsible for all loot proceedings, and the loot
threshold will be set to "Uncommon" to trigger the loot management tools.
- Any loot rules specific to that instance to be announced at the start of the raid.
- Collectors will be assigned for rep items, ie Coins/Bijous from ZG, Scarabs/Idols from AQ etc. As a rule we will bank
all of these until there are sufficient amounts to distribute in sets as required to complete the class quests.
- All item values are taken from our simple DKP chart...
When items drop...
- Each item to be rolled for, the dkp value, and any specific restrictions (ie class, profession, rep level etc) will be
spammed in raid chat, with the comment "need roll to follow". Do not roll immediately as it will not count.
- The master looter (ML) will then begin the roll with the loot tool, which will spam a message in raid chat similar to:
"Please roll need for [fatpieeatingorc's huge spoon of gorging]". Now you may roll if you are interested in the item, and
have 30 seconds to do so, after which the roll will close and no further rolls will be registered.
- ML will check those that have rolled and compare their current dkp standings, the one with the highest dkp will be
awarded the item. In the case of two or more needers having equal dkp their rolls will determine the winner.
- If an item is not needed then the following rules apply:
-- For items that are BoE, a greed roll will be initiated for sale, unless it is a class set item in which
case it will be banked and made available for purchase to other guild members for DKP.
-- For items that are BoP, these will be given to an echanter for disenchanting and the materials will be sent to the
bhcoenchant bank for guild enchants.
NOTES:
- DKP will be gained for ALL drops which have a DKP value, whether they are bought, banked, or disenchanted. This is our only
exception to the zero sum philosophy, we feel it is a fair way to reward the raid members for their time and effort
especially in the event of difficult runs and/or boss downs where the items dropped are not needed and end up being disenchanted.
- All rolls will have a 30 second timer, if you miss the time slot you miss your chance. It will not be rerolled
for - this has to be strict to minimise downtime.
